Most clients have collected, inherited, or invested in furnishings over time which reflect their unique lifestyle.  When they decide to update their look, move to a new residence, or remodel the existing one, those treasured items, along with their personal style, will always be the heart of the home. The advantage of Redesign is that it is service oriented rather than product oriented...it is a collaboration with the client to utilize their favorite items in a beautiful, new environment that truly reflects the owner's personality and lifestyle.

Excerpt from an article in "Entrepreneurs Start Ups":
"[Redesigners] are nonjudgmental about the homeowner's belongings, and they'll work with any constraints or within any budget," says Michele Roark, owner of Interior Arrangements By Michele Roark in St. Michaels, Maryland... "No matter what the homeowner has, a redesigner will work with it and make it work."

Why Redesign?
Most clients have collected, inherited, or invested in furnishings over time which reflect their unique lifestyle.  When they decide to update their look, move to a new residence, or remodel the existing one, those treasured items, along with their personal style, will always be the heart of the home. The advantage of Redesign is that it is service oriented rather than product oriented...it is a collaboration with the client to utilize their favorite items in a beautiful, new environment that truly reflects the owner's personality and lifestyle.

From the Entrepreneur's Start Ups article :
"Redesigners are a 'safe' version of the traditional designer," says Julea Joseph, 44, owner of Reinventing Space in Chicago. "People are no longer looking for an interior designer to sweep into their home and say, 'Dahling, everything must go.'
Instead, they're educated consumers who just need someone to pull everything together."

Interior redesign...is a close relative of interior design. Instead of creating an entirely new decorating scheme with new furnishings and accessories, as an interior designer does, an interior redesigner works with whatever the homeowner already owns...and rearranges it to give a room an entirely new look. The result is a decorator look without the decorator price tag".

"[Redesigners] are nonjudgmental about the homeowner's belongings, and they'll work with any constraints or within any budget," says Michele Roark, owner of Interior Arrangements By Michele Roark in St. Michaels, Maryland... "No matter what the homeowner has, a redesigner will work with it and make it work."

about diane

Diane founded Room Service on a unique set of ideas in interior design:
  • Interior design is equally personal and functional.  Rooms should reflect the uniqueness of the people who live in them and enhance their living.
  • Interior design requires a well-defined strategy and an organized process to implement the design plan, thereby saving money and time.
  • Any new design project must incorporate existing furnishings and accessories in ways which preserve their personal meaning and history.
Using these principles, interior design is personal, manageable, and maximizes your quality of living.

Diane's creative passion for design has developed from the time she was young -  decorating shoe box houses with imagined furnishings from the pages of a department store catalog!  In 2006, when the time came for a career change, she reflected on those memories and knew exactly what she wanted to pursue.  She had honed her "eye" and knowledge of the interior design principles of scale, balance, color, and space planning
through years of hands-on remodeling projects, networking with contractors, and independent study.  Through knowledge and desire, Room Service Redesign came to fruition.  Accolades of Diane's talents spread by word alone and her design projects over the last four years have included work with floor plans, paint, window treatments, furniture of varying styles, designer fabrics, kitchen and bath design, accessory placement, wallpaper, lighting design, art glass, wood finishes, decorative hardware, and
silk florals/plants.

As a business owner, Diane relies on her masters degree and extensive background in corporate management. Diane is an experienced facilitator and excels when collaborating with clients to understand their interior design goals.  She works reverently to develop a personal and unique decorating plan for each project.  Her experience with business strategy and process development allow Diane to apply these valuable skills
uniquely to the world of home interiors.  By establishing well defined home decorating priorities and using Diane's organized approach to interior design, the client saves money, projects are timely, and the process is manageable.

Decor must have sentimental value. A house must tell a story.~Mark Hampton, Harper's Bazaar, June 1989

Decorating is a mysterious profession.~Michael Taylor, The Finest Rooms

In real decorating there are no precedents. Every house, every room is different, and you cannot be sure of the exact position any object should occupy until you try it out.~Michael Taylor, The Finest Rooms

We must demand that all things that come into the realm of our private world, our houses and our rooms, be a delight to the eye and a satisfaction to the intellect.~Michael Taylor, The Finest Rooms

A good room...should give one...the exciting feeling that the owner is a part of it and that it is for him a personal triumph, whether or not it follows a recognizable trend.~Michael Taylor, The Finest Rooms
When you design a house for somebody else, you have to feel an affinity for them, because you must enter wholeheartedly into their private life.
Robert Kime, Architectural Digest

One becomes bored supplying the same solutions to the same problems: I need to be constantly amused, and it intrigues me to discover and use different approaches.~Roger Banks-Pye, Colefax and Fowler Interior Inspirations

In real decorating, there are no precedents.~Rose Cumming

Power in the residence does not emanate from a grandiose or palatial design, but rather from the occupants themselves. Power from within is achieved with the simplicity and the comfort of the surroundings.~Samir Badro, Great Designers of the World

Progressive Room Redesign:  Family Room
This recent project covers all the bases:  a functional space plan, a coordinated color scheme, new flooring, new area rug, new and
reupholstered furnishings, new window treatment design,  plentiful lighting, and a combination of new and old accessories.   The
new design meets the homeowners first priority...it's inviting!  Diane loves it because there is so much of the owners' personalities
and lifestyle reflected in the design.  It's a privilege to help a client achieve such a personal, functional, yet classic design.

I always think out a problem as clearly as possible, and then act on it. My theory has always been to get started. The moment I get an idea I act upon it. Even if it's not a style of architecture or period you like, a decorator has to have a feel for a house's personality and try not to fight against it. I like to get the juice out of a house and not spoil it.~Nancy Lancaster, Her Life, Her World, Her Art

I strongly believe that people may not want, or may not be able, to start again from scratch, so giving old furniture a new lease of life is at the heart of my philosophy.~Nina Campbell

[Taste] is an evolution and refinement of the one's personal likes and dislikes. This evolution takes place with a constant curiosity and interest in everything. The editing consequently refines the choices and defines taste.~Norma Kamali

Neither good taste nor wealth... can transform a house into a home, for a home does not consist in the quality of its architecture or decor, but in the quality of the lives that it expresses.~Philippa Tristam, Living Space
Good design is about turning dreams into reality.~John Saladino

... the test of a home is whether it makes the visitor feel at ease.~Philippa Tristam, Living Space

Every home has its own pulse. If you live in it awhile, it tells you what it wants to be.~Robert Kime, Architectural Digest

You don't have to live in the best building on the block--sometimes it's better to face it.~Robert Kime, Architectural Digest

I do a kind of psychological work before beginning a house. I have to know well the people who are going to live in it. I do something that resembles them.

Charlotte Moss, A Passion for Details

An interior is the natural projection of the soul.~Coco Chanel

It is just as disastrous to have the wrong accessories in your room as it is to wear sport shoes with an evening dress.~Dorothy Draper

If you are collector, let other people share your pride and joy. Don't sprinkle your collection out of sight in a meaningless jumble. Collect what you will, but see to it that you arrange your hobby to its best advantage.~Dorothy Draper, Good Housekeeping
