Married to Design: How we leverage each other’s strengths

When people ask us how we achieve a beautiful interior without sacrificing functional needs, we respond by showing how that balance is parallel to how we leverage our individual strengths  — ultimately creating a design that is more holistic and more elevated than if just one of us had worked on it.  Exceptional interior design always comes down to finding that perfect balance between beauty and function. It’s never ONLY about making a space look good—it must work seamlessly for the people living in it. That belief shapes every project we undertake. 

Over the years, we've come to understand the power of our collaboration.  We’ve even had clients call it our “woo woo” moments - when we quietly understand what the other is thinking/feeling and with just a glance, discover an element that we know has to be incorporated in the design plan.  

Our creative minds tend to lead with aesthetics—we love imagining the possibilities, the color stories, and the "wow" moments. But where Roy’s unbounded ideas soar, pragmatism lands them and Diane’s considering flow, usage, budget and long-term functionality. When those two forces meet, that's when the magic  happens!  

We spend a lot of time upfront discussing and understanding how our clients live. Are they hosting big gatherings or cooking solo? Do they love a large outdoor living space or prefer a cozy library that doubles as a wine room and workspace? These lifestyle insights are what guide every design decision and ensure that the result doesn’t just feel good—it works for them.  Then we layer in all the furnishings, lighting, wall finishes, etc. that will achieve that perfect balance.
